Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the delivery of oxygen to a patient in a closed chamber that is pressurized to greater than sea-level, frequently in the range of 1.3 to 1.7 times sea-level. This enables delivery of oxygen to body tissues, such as the brain, that may have decreased or absent blood supply secondary to a disease process, such as a stroke or head injury. (This is not a definitive list of all disease processes).
